Free agent running back Chris Johnson is reportedly expected to sign with a new team by the middle of next week, and while a reunion with former coach Jeff Fisher is an intriguing possibility, there's a good chance it won't happen.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, those familiar with the situation in St. Louis say the Rams don't appear to have much, if any, interest in Johnson, who was released by the Tennessee Titans on Friday.

The 28-year-old played some of his best football under Fisher in Tennessee, but his recent decline in production, along with his price tag, could be a deterrent for the Rams.

Another reason could simply be that the Rams are happy with their backfield situation. In addition to Zac Stacy, who rushed for 973 yards as a rookie last season, St. Louis has Benny Cunningham, Daryl Richardson, Isaiah Pead, and Chase Reynolds at running back - all of whom are 26-years-old or under.

Teams who could have interest in Johnson include the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and Atlanta Falcons.
