Titans release Chris Johnson: Former 2,000-yard rusher thanks fans

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans finally cut ties with former 2,000-yard rusher Chris Johnson on Friday, ending a drawn-out process which saw the team futilely try to find a trade partner for a player whose best days appear to be behind him.

Hours after being informed of his release by the team, Johnson issued a statement thanking fans for their support during his time in Nashville.

I’d like to thank all of my teammates, the fans, the staff and the coaches who have supported me throughout my journey with the Titans. I have grown so much as an individual and as teammate over the past few years, and I am excited about the opportunity to bring my experience and talents to a new organization. I’m looking forward to the next chapter and can’t wait to contribute to my new team. #JUICE

Johnson is now free to sign with any team. There are rumors the Jets, Cowboys, Bills and Falcons could have interest - provided the price is right.
