Packers S Richardson cleared to play after recovering from herniated disk

Promising young safety Sean Richardson nearly had his NFL career derailed when he suffered a herniated disk last season, but Packers doctors have finally cleared him to play again after carefully monitoring the healing of the single-level fusion surgery he underwent.

Green Bay can keep Richardson on their "Physically Unable to Perform" list until Nov. 10, when he must be added to the 53-man roster, put on injured reserve or released. A player on the PUP list can practice for three weeks before counting against the roster.

Richardson joined the Packers as an unsigned rookie in 2012 and was great on special teams, recording four tackles in five games before suffering his season-ending injury.
