Titans don't plan to split out Chris Johnson

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson has been on a steady decline since his 2000-yard season back in 2009. He has managed just 327 yards on the ground this year over six games, but Johnson is still an incredible athlete.

With that being said, the Titans have no plans to move Johnson into space to better utilize his athleticism, and feel like his best chance to produce is still coming out of the backfield.

“We feel like CJ’s strengths are probably coming out of the backfield, not necessarily splitting out and running routes,” Offensive Coordinator Dowell Loggains said. “That’s not something that is his strength, [that’s] being in the backfield, being in on a stretch to run the football, run a screen or get out in a pass route from there. "

Johnson added that moving out wide has never been in the Titans gameplan.

“It’s never been a situation where I had plays really designed for me out there on the outside,” he said. “It never has been like that for me. I know I had the one against Houston where they left me out there. Every time I go out there it’s really like a fly route or a hitch route. "

With Johnson's production in a free-fall, some fresh ideas certainly couldn't hurt.
