Goodell: Chiefs' home atmosphere big reason for prime time-heavy schedule

The Kansas City Chiefs have their record-setting fans to thank for the national exposure they'll receive in 2017.

The Chiefs will appear in prime time six times this upcoming campaign, more than any other team. And commissioner Roger Goodell said the atmosphere within Arrowhead Stadium was a huge factor in the decision to put Kansas City at the forefront of the NFL's national TV package.

"I personally think it's a great tribute to the national attractiveness of the Kansas City Chiefs," Goodell said, according to Yahoo's Jay Busbee. "I'll tell you, every network talks about broadcasting a game from (Arrowhead Stadium) because it's such a great atmosphere. I can't emphasize to you enough the importance of how that passion of the fans comes through the television screen. We're a game where that passion is felt through the broadcast and people are like, "Wow, that sea of red … it's just a great setting."

One of Kansas City's prime-time games is the season opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots in New England.

Chiefs fans are known for their passion during games, as Arrowhead holds the record for the loudest outdoor stadium in the world.
