Mixon attempts to move past assault as pro career begins

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon addressed the media for the first time after being selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Mixon is among the most controversial picks in this year's event after video surfaced from a July 2014 incident that showed him punch a woman in the face, breaking bones in her face.

The running back and the victim of the assault reached a civil settlement on April 21.

Mixon expressed some remorse about his actions, although he appeared focused on how the assault affected his life solely.

"It hurt to really see it, hurt to talk about it, but at the end of the day, I'm going to try to do whatever I can to move forward past the situation," Mixon said, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell.

Mixon will be under scrutiny for the rest of his professional career, whether he'd like the incident to escape public consciousness or not.
