Giants gave Manning a courtesy call after drafting QB Webb

The New York Giants are keeping their star quarterback in the loop as they plan for the future.

After selecting Cal quarterback Davis Webb in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft on Friday, head coach Ben McAdoo made sure to place a call to Eli Manning.

"We didn't have any conversation with Eli before we drafted, but we drafted a quarterback, and we are going to let our quarterback know that we are drafting a quarterback, of course," general manager Jerry Reese said, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

It's unlikely that the pick would have come as a surprise to Manning, as the veteran signal-caller conceded earlier in the offseason that he'd understand if the Giants took a young quarterback early.

Webb will have the opportunity to develop behind the 36-year-old before presumably having the chance to take over as the long-term starter down the road.
