During the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft on Thursday, the Browns inquired about trading for Jimmy Garoppolo, but the New England Patriots reiterated to Cleveland that they aren't interested in trading their backup quarterback, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Garoppolo has been the subject of trade talk throughout the offseason. The Browns have consistently been mentioned as the favorite to tear him away from the Patriots, who have insisted they don't want to move the young pivot.

The Browns also reportedly looked into trading for Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, though both sides quickly denied discussing a deal.

Despite a significant need under center, Cleveland didn't take a quarterback during Day 1 of the draft, opting instead to take Myles Garrett with the first overall pick, trading back from 12th overall, and snagging safety Jabrill Peppers and tight end David Njoku with the picks earned from the move.
