7 wildest moments from craziest NFL draft night in recent memory

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

What. A. Night.

Trades up. Trades down. Quarterback competition. Slides. Rises. Personalities.

The NFL draft's return to Philadelphia had pretty much everything a fan could ask for in the most entertaining offseason event the league has seen in some time.

Let's take a look at the moments that made it so special:

Bears go up 1 spot for Trubisky, 49ers get major haul

After the Browns made Myles Garrett the first overall pick (as expected), John Lynch got the unexpected portion of his first draft started off right Thursday.

The first-year general manager picked up two extra third-round picks and an extra fourth before the Bears shocked the world (and Mike Glennon) by making Mitchell Trubisky the second overall pick.

Not bad for a guy who only had 13 starts in college - or a guy who has had a little over 13 weeks as a GM.

Chiefs make Mahomes 2nd QB drafted

The clock is ticking on the Alex Smith era in Kansas City.

The Chiefs made a loud statement moving all the way up from the 27th overall pick to the 10th to select strong-arm phenom Patrick Mahomes, giving the Bills this year's and next year's first-rounder, as well as their 2017 third-rounder.

Early in the draft process, Mahomes was projected as a Day 2 pick, almost certain to be selected after Deshaun Watson and DeShone Kizer. His ability to make 80-yard tosses is a tad different than Smith's dink-and-dunk approach.

Colts, Saints gifted top-notch Ohio State DBs

Sometimes it's best to just sit back and let others make the mistakes.

The Saints and Colts both had projected top-10 defensive backs fall into their laps in the middle stage of the first round that perfectly fit immediate needs.

New Colts safety Malik Hooker and new Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore were theScore's third- and fourth-ranked overall prospects, respectively, heading into the draft.

Easy money.

Bucs, Giants add weapons to already loaded offenses

Jameis Winston and Eli Manning should be two very happy men.

The Buccaneers and Giants are the proud owners of two shiny new weapons that will be lining up at the tight end position. Alabama's O.J. Howard, thought to be the safest pick in the draft, will join the likes of Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson in Tampa Bay's offense.

If defenses in the NFC East were worried about Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard, super athletic Mississippi tight end Evan Engram won't do much to ease their pain.

Also, as a bonus to Howard and Engram, they don't have to play for the Browns like fellow tight end David Njoku.

Raiders take Conley despite rape allegations

The most shocking pick of the first round belonged to the Raiders.

Not because of a surprising evaluation of talents, but rather a surprising evaluation of legal claims.

Despite accusations of rape being reported less than a week ago, Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley didn't lose his projected first-round draft status as the Raiders felt confident enough in his profession of innocence that they will be introducing him at an official press conference in the short future.

McKinley's family makes unforgettable appearances

Takkarist McKinley made a lot of new fans Thursday night - in large part due to his family.

The UCLA product hit the red floor with his father, who made a valiant attempt to upstage him with his wardrobe.

However, McKinley took the spotlight back after being selected by the Falcons 26th overall as he came to the stage carrying a giant photo of his late grandmother and gave an emotional, profanity-laced post-selection interview.

God damn.

Foster falls to 49ers at 31, Lynch finishes strong

The NFL knows something about Reuben Foster that the public does not.

The highly rated Alabama linebacker, who was booted from the combine over an altercation with a doctor, slid all the way to the 31st overall pick after many had projected him to go inside the top 15. Foster reportedly had medical concerns and some personality issues that caused his slide.

While Foster had to wait longer than expected to hear his name called, the selection was another great get for Lynch in his first draft, walking away with theScore's second- and seventh-ranked prospects.
