Marcus Maye skipping draft to walk in graduation

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

NFL draft prospect Marcus Maye will be walking across a stage this weekend, but it won't be in Philadelphia.

The Florida safety is taking a pass on attending the draft, instead opting to attend his graduation ceremony Saturday for his degree in African American Studies. Maye will watch the draft at home with his family instead of sitting in the green room.

"If I make a promise to anybody I want to follow it through - and this one was to my mom," Maye told Chris Harry of Floridagators.com. "No one in my immediate family has graduated from college. The fact she wanted me to do that - not just play football, but also graduate - has been in the back of mind and knowing that the last year has always been a motivation for me."

Maye is expected by most to be taken by Day 2, as he's one of the top safeties available.
