Report: Vikings unlikely to pick up Bridgewater's 5th-year option

The Minnesota Vikings are expected to pass on picking up the fifth-year option in quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's contract, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Bridgewater is entering his fourth NFL season, yet missed all of his third year due to a major knee injury suffered in the preseason.

The team's starting quarterback tore his ACL and dislocated his left knee on the practice field, prompting the Vikings to trade for quarterback Sam Bradford ahead of the 2016 season.

The Vikings have stated there is no timetable for Bridgewater's return and head coach Mike Zimmer said he has "no idea" whether the passer will be able to play in 2017.

With that in mind, Minnesota may balk at picking up an option that would pay Bridgewater more than $11 million for the 2018 season. The two sides could, however, work out a new contract, as Schefter reports.
