After a lengthy suspension levied in May 2014, Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has been conditionally reinstated, the team announced Tuesday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Washington plans to play in 2017, though Arizona's statement doesn't make it clear that his return will be with the Cardinals.

Washington was suspended the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, and then was flagged for another violation after the season, which resulted in the indefinite suspension.

He was also arrested on two counts of aggravated assault in May 2013 and was sentenced to one year of supervised probation.

Washington last played in the 2013 season, and made the Pro Bowl in 2012 while earning a second-team All-Pro spot. Washington signed a six-year deal with the Cardinals in 2012 after being a second-round pick in 2010.

The 30-year-old was thought to be one of the best young linebackers in the league before his suspension.
