Adrian Peterson is officially a member of the New Orleans Saints.

The team confirmed the signing Tuesday afternoon.

A member of the Minnesota Vikings for 10 seasons, Peterson was let go by the Vikings ahead of free agency. He and the Saints agreed to terms on a two-year contract reportedly worth $7 million.

"We are excited to welcome Adrian to the New Orleans Saints," head coach Sean Payton said. "It's rare and unique to have the opportunity to add a Hall of Fame player to your roster.

"His career has been top-notch and speaks for itself. We think he will be an excellent fit in our locker room and in our offense. We look forward to the opportunity later this spring to work with him on the field along with the rest of our team."

The Saints now own the active leaders in career passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns with Drew Brees and Peterson in their backfield.

Peterson only managed to play in three games last season due to a knee injury. He'll look to restart his career, one that has seen him collect an NFL MVP award in 2012 to go with 11,747 career rushing yards and 97 rushing scores.
