Agent: Cutler isn't retiring, 'wants to play football'

Free-agent quarterback Jay Cutler does not intend to retire and is preparing as though he'll be playing in the upcoming season, his agent, Bus Cook, said to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Jay wants to play football," Cook told Schefter.

"He never has mentioned retirement to me. Jay Cutler, as far as I know, is ready to play and wants to play, and his skill set is as good as any quarterback in the league."

Little had been heard from Cutler's camp since he was released by the Chicago Bears on the first day of free agency. The Bears opted to go in another direction by signing Mike Glennon to be their new starter and Mark Sanchez as their backup.

Cutler was believed to be a target for teams in need of a new starting quarterback, but his market has seemingly dried up over the offseason.

However, contrary to speculation, Cook said his client has not considered retirement.

A number of teams, including the Houston Texans and New York Jets, have yet to address their quarterback voids, but they are also candidates to select a quarterback prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday.
