As the NFL draft approaches, quarterback Mitch Trubisky continues climbing the first-round draft board.

The junior out of North Carolina is gaining consideration as the No. 1 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports, citing league sources.

The motivation for the Browns would be to ensure they get their choice of quarterback, instead of hoping he falls to their next pick at No. 12, Cabot notes.

Should Cleveland pass on taking Trubisky with the top pick, the San Francisco 49ers could draft him at No. 2.

"Don't be surprised," a source stated to Cabot.

Both the Browns and 49ers are in desperate need to find their quarterback of the future. That necessity could push Trubisky to the top of the draft.
