Martin rejoins Bucs for workouts, reportedly 'in a good place' after rehab stint

Suspended Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin rejoined the team for the start of offseason workouts Monday, general manager Jason Licht confirmed.

Licht said he and head coach Dirk Koetter recently sat down with Martin, and said the veteran runner "looks as good as I've ever seen him," according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.

Martin is banned for the first three games of the 2017 season due to a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, but is "in a good place" after recently completing a stint in rehab for Adderall, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, who originally reported Martin had returned to the team.

The 28-year-old's future with the franchise remains in doubt, with the Bucs refusing to commit to him long term. Tampa Bay could void Martin's 2017 guarantee following his violation, which is worth $7 million, but his return Monday is a positive first step for him on the road to regaining his standing on the team.

Martin struggled in 2016, fighting through hamstring issues while averaging 2.9 yards per carry in eight appearances.
