Adam Gase is bringing in a familiar face to help continue the turnaround in Miami.

Longtime NFL assistant Joe Vitt - who is also the father-in-law of the Dolphins' head coach - recently joined Gase's staff as a consultant, Alex Marvez of The Sporting News reports.

Vitt became available this offseason when he was fired after 11 seasons with the New Orleans Saints, the majority of which were spent as a linebackers coach and assistant head coach.

He also took over as the interim head coach for 10 games in 2012, filling in during Sean Payton's "Bountygate" suspension after his own six-game ban was served.

The 62-year-old's guidance could be highly beneficial for a Dolphins defense that finished the 2016 season ranked 29th in total yards allowed.
