Terrance Knighton retiring after 7 seasons to pursue coaching

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

Free-agent defensive tackle Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton is retiring from the NFL after seven seasons to pursue a coaching career, he told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Knighton did not play in 2016 after being cut by the New England Patriots in training camp, but played for the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, and Jacksonville Jaguars over seven NFL seasons.

The 30-year-old gained popularity for his nickname and large gut, as well as for his premier run-stuffing ability.

Knighton was selected by the Jaguars in the third round of the 2009 draft. He contributed to the Broncos' run to the Super Bowl in 2013, though it ended in defeat. He played in 108 games over the course of his career, recording 159 tackles, 14 sacks, and two interceptions.
