Free-agent running back Adrian Peterson left his visit with the New Orleans Saints without a contract Tuesday night, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

The visit "went well" and both sides remain in contact, adds Rapoport.

This was Peterson's third visit of free agency after failing to land a deal with the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

It seemed unlikely that Peterson would end up with the Saints as they already have Mark Ingram under contract as their first- and second-down runner.

Peterson, 32, is coming off a season in which he appeared in just three games due to a knee injury, but ran for 1,485 yards and 11 touchdowns the year before.
