Former NFL linebacker James Laurinaitis announced his retirement on Twitter after eight professional seasons Tuesday.

Laurinaitis played five games with the New Orleans Saints in 2016, spending the first seven seasons of his career with the-then St. Louis Rams.

The 30-year-old never missed a game during his tenure with the Rams and operated as a reliable mainstay in the middle of the defense.

Laurinaitis was selected in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.
