Browns trade back into 1st round for David Njoku
The Cleveland Browns have selected tight end David Njoku out of Miami with the 29th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft after moving back into the opening round through a trade with the Green Bay Packers.
The Browns gave up their second-round pick (33rd overall) and fourth-round pick (108th overall) for the 29th pick after previously selecting defensive end Myles Garrett (first overall) and safety Jabrill Peppers (25th overall) in the first round.
Njoku gives Cleveland a speedy, athletic weapon from the tight end position. He's much more of a pass-catching threat than current starting tight end Gary Barnidge.
The Miami product is the third tight end selected in the first round of the 2017 draft.

Strengths
- Great athlete. Can be moved around in different formations and flexed out wide.
- Shows good effort as a blocker.
- Dangerous threat in the red zone because of his size. Can create matchup problems for defensive backs on jump balls.
- Good seam-route runner. Gets downfield quickly with long strides and linebackers can't stay with him.
Weaknesses
- Drops can be an issue. Loses focus on shorter patterns and turns up field before securing the ball.
- Needs to track deep balls better. Gets caught drifting into coverage, giving his quarterback a poor target.
- Doesn't work back to the quarterback enough and adjust his routes on broken plays.
