49ers add WR Trent Taylor in 5th round

The San Francisco 49ers have selected receiver Trent Taylor out of Louisiana Tech in the fifth round (177th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Strengths

• Massive production as a senior. Caught a whopping 136 passes for more than 1,800 yards.
• Quick getting in and out of his breaks. Corners have a hard time sticking with him on option routes.
• Good body control near the sideline and boundary. Does a good job of getting his feet down in traffic.
• Can add value as punt returner.

Weaknesses

• Undersized for an NFL receiver and ran a slow 40-yard dash at the combine.
• Needs to do a better job of working back to the quarterback on short comeback routes.
• Will struggle to win jump balls and 50-50 throws at the next level.
• Worked primarily out of the slot at Louisiana Tech and will have to be used that way in the NFL. Won't be effective out wide near the numbers.
