Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is open to the idea of being traded to the New England Patriots, Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald reports.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider revealed that the four-time Pro Bowler is on the trade block, although a deal isn't expected to come to fruition immediately.

The Patriots have expressed interest in acquiring Sherman, but aren't expected to pursue him unless Malcolm Butler leaves the team, Howe reports.

Sherman said he wants to remain with the Seahawks, but noted that the NFL is a business when asked about the rampant speculation.

Placing one of the marquee cornerbacks of his generation in Bill Belichick's hands is a daunting proposition for the rest of the league, but many steps need to be taken before a prospective deal can be reached.
