Vikings' Laquon Treadwell: Receives support from coach

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said he expects growth from Treadwell (ankle) in his second season, ESPN's Ben Goessling reports.

Analysis:

The 23rd overall pick of last year's draft, Treadwell finished his rookie campaign with merely one catch on three targets for 15 yards. That production fell far short of the expectations associated with his draft slot, and foot and ankle ailments ultimately limited Treadwell to nine appearances before he was placed on injured reserve. Zimmer said that he thinks Treadwell is healthy again and headed for a good year, but also that he needs to improve his understanding of the subtleties of an NFL offense. On the same token, Zimmer said Treadwell has a better grasp than Cordarrelle Patterson did at a similar stage in his career. Now that Patterson has left for the Raiders, Treadwell could use the extra reps to improve his standing behind Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen on the Vikings' depth chart.
