Report: Cowboys may not reach Romo decision until after draft

Perhaps the football world shouldn't be waiting on the edge of its seat for news on Tony Romo's future.

The Dallas Cowboys aren't anywhere close to making a move with their veteran signal-caller, and the holding pattern could even continue beyond April's draft, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Dak Prescott emerging as the quarterback of the future during a sensational rookie season all but guaranteed that Romo would end up elsewhere in 2017.

While that indeed remains the most likely outcome, there's been no indication as to when the Cowboys will make their decision.

After early offseason reports suggested that Romo would be moved at the beginning of free agency, either by way of a trade or a release, it's increasingly odd to see the quarterback still on the Cowboys roster.

Romo would presumably be looking to catch on with a contender that provides him the opportunity to chase down a Super Bowl title in closing out a highly successful pro career.

A transition to the broadcast booth is also on the table, as there are reportedly a number of networks lining up to give him such an opportunity.
