Jets GM not ruling out drafting QB: 'All options are on the table'

The New York Jets are still very much in the market for a potential long-term solution at the most important position on the field.

Asked about the quarterback spot following the recent signing of Josh McCown, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan left the door open for another addition to be made through the draft.

"I think going into this thing, our plan is to basically find the best group of quarterbacks from that standpoint. We've obviously made a move in pro free agency," Maccagnan said, according to the team's website.

"There's still the college draft and like I said earlier, all options are on the table at the quarterback position going forward. With any player on this team, they're going to have to earn their spot on the roster and I think Todd (Bowles) would echo that same thought."

McCown, a 37-year-old signed this week to a one-year, $6 million deal, won't be considered anything more than a bridge player at a position that remains a glaring an issue for New York.

Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are still in the early stages of their careers, but neither has shown signs of emerging as a franchise quarterback.

Whether it's with the No. 6 overall pick or at some point on Day 2, the Jets adding another signal-caller could be a sensible move in attempting to get the rebuild on track.

Among the top talents who would be in the mix in the first round are Clemson's Deshaun Watson, Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer, and North Carolina's Mitchell Trubisky.
