Browns' Thomas endorses Trubisky as QB with 'most upside'

As the Cleveland Browns work to decide what to do with their pair of top-12 draft picks, one of their best selections ever is offering up his opinion.

There is no guarantee the Browns take a quarterback with one of their first two picks, but 10-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas knows who he would take if tasked with finding the team's next signal caller.

"I know that Mitchell Trubisky is probably the guy that has the most upside potential in a pro-style offense in the NFL," Thomas told 92.3 The Fan, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. "I don't see those other guys as obvious fits in NFL offenses.

"So if you're going to take a guy, he might be your guy you want to take. With that being said, I think he's only started for a year, so he's got a lot of improvement to make before he is ready to be the starting quarterback."

Trubisky, who grew up in Mentor near Cleveland, is competing with the likes of Clemson's Deshaun Watson, Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer, and Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes to be the top quarterback selected in the draft.

The Browns own the first and 12th overall picks of the draft. Though they are widely expected to take edge rusher Myles Garrett with the first spot, a quarterback could very well be the choice at No. 12, depending on who is still available.
