Goodell doesn't take issue with Trump's comments on Kaepernick

Donald Trump's latest shot at Colin Kaepernick came in front of a Kentucky crowd earlier this week, where he seemed to enjoy the idea of teams not signing the polarizing quarterback due to fear of him tweeting about it.

Making an appearance on ESPN's "Mike and Mike" on Thursday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell opted against taking any sort of outright stance against the controversial remarks.

"That's a comment that he's going to make and that's fine," Goodell said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

For what it's worth, Goodell said he believes teams are only building their rosters with the interest of results in mind.

"Our teams are out there working hard to figure out how they can improve each of their clubs," Goodell continued. "They're making the best decisions they can. And they're going to do what they can to improve their teams and win. That's what they want to do for the fans. So that's what they're focused on and that's what we're focused on. Everyone's going to make other comments, and obviously we're respectful of those comments, particularly from the president."

Trump initially took issue with Kaepernick kneeling during national anthems as a form of protest, and later suggested the quarterback's actions were a factor in the NFL's declining ratings.

During last year's presidential election, the quarterback called Trump "openly racist."

Kaepernick remains unsigned despite a productive season for an otherwise disastrous San Francisco 49ers team, when he completed 59.2 percent of pass attempts for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just four interceptions across 11 starts and 12 total games.
