New Minnesota Vikings running back Latavius Murray underwent ankle surgery Wednesday, the team announced.

The Vikings knew of the required surgery before signing the then-free-agent to a reported three-year deal on March 16.

Murray is expected to be recovered in time for training camp.

Playing with the Oakland Raiders last season, Murray was listed on the injury report with an ankle injury late in the year, but he played through the ailment. The injury was described as bone spurs, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

He finished the season with 788 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He only carried the ball 12 times for 39 yards and a score in the Raiders' lone playoff game against the Houston Texans.

Murray is expected to become the Vikings' lead back after the release of Adrian Peterson.
