The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a two-year contract with free-agent linebacker Manti Te'o, ESPN's Mike Triplett reports, citing a source.

Clearly in need of upgrades throughout the defensive side of the roster, New Orleans will hope that a fresh start can help Te'o live up to his 2013 second-round draft status.

The former Notre Dame standout was unable to do so across four seasons with the Chargers, the last of which coming to an end after just three games due to a torn Achilles.

He started 12 games the year prior, recording 83 tackles, one interception, and 0.5 sacks.

Te'o should compete for a starting spot in a new-look position group that has also added former Carolina Panthers linebacker A.J. Klein to the mix this offseason.
