Jets' Josh McCown: Officially signs with Jets

McCown agreed to a one-year contract with the Jets on Monday, his agent, Mike McCartney, reports.

Analysis:

After visiting with the team over the weekend, McCown officially put pen to paper Monday on a deal that will bring him to New York City to play for the Jets. He's made previous stops in Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Chicago over the past five years and has proven to be a valuable backup quarterback as well as a solid fill-in starter when called upon. However, the 37-year-old offers little upside at this point in his career and, while he initially slots in at No. 1 on the depth chart, is not the long-term solution at quarterback. His signing shouldn't prevent New York from considering a signal-caller in the early rounds of this year's draft.
