Report: Saints to host Chase Daniel

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

Free-agent quarterback Chase Daniel is set to visit with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, a source told ESPN's Adam Caplan.

Daniel spent 2009-12 in New Orleans, primarily acting as Drew Brees' backup.

After leaving the Saints, Daniel spent three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and the 2016 season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Daniel reportedly asked for his release from the Eagles this offseason, just one year into a deal that saw him become one of the highest-paid backups in the league.

The 30-year-old's familiarity with the Saints' offense means he could step back into his role as Brees' substitute rather seamlessly. However, it would mean Daniel wouldn't get to compete for a starting job, which was believed to be his motivation for joining the Eagles before they drafted Carson Wentz.
