Chris Baker hurt that Redskins didn't make him an offer

Chris Baker established himself as an attractive free-agent defensive line addition to many teams around the league in 2016, but not the one he was playing for.

Baker hoped to remain a member of the Washington Redskins after six seasons of service, but after the team didn't extend him a contract offer, the 29-year-old accepted a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While Baker is happy to be part of a team on the rise in Tampa, he didn't appreciate the lack of interest shown by Washington.

"It was really hurtful learning that the Redskins didn't really offer me a contract, being that I was one of their best defensive linemen on their team for the last couple of years and really worked my way up from the practice squad to being one of the best linemen," Baker told SiriusXM NFL radio.

"And for them not to offer me was very hurtful, but I understand it's a business and I'm very happy to move forward with the Buccaneers and I think I really have a bright future there."

Baker also took to Twitter to voice his thoughts.

Washington lost a trio of productive free agents in Baker and the veteran receiving duo of Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson. That may be due in part to reported dysfunction in Washington's organization that preceded the firing of general manager Scot McCloughan on the first day of free agency.
