Jason Pierre-Paul is cashing in with a lucrative deal to replace his franchise tag.

The New York Giants have officially signed their star defensive end to a contract extension, just weeks after using the one-year tender to keep him off the open market, the team announced Friday.

Pierre-Paul's new deal is worth $62 million over four years, including $40 million in guarantees and a staggering total of $34 million within the first 11 months, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

"We're happy to get a long-term deal with Jason," general manager Jerry Reese said in a release. "Not only is he one of our best players, he is one of our leaders."

The franchise tag bought the Giants some extra time to negotiate a long-term deal, but the two sides didn't take long to secure his future in New York.

Pierre-Paul demonstrated while playing on a one-year deal last season that the significant hand injuries he suffered in a July 2015 fireworks accident wouldn't impact his effectiveness.

Finishing second only to Olivier Vernon among team leaders, the former first-round pick racked up seven sacks in 12 games before being forced to undergo surgery.
