Cowboys bring Darren McFadden back on 1-year deal

The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed running back Darren McFadden to a one-year contract, according to team writer Nick Eatman.

McFadden spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys, though he missed 13 games in 2016 with an elbow injury. He rushed for 1,089 yards in 2015 - his second career 1,000-yard season.

The 29-year-old's re-signing likely signals the release of backup Alfred Morris, whom the Cowboys have reportedly been looking to trade since early March. Morris struggled in spot duty behind Ezekiel Elliott in his first season as a Cowboy, and has little dead cap money on his contract, while the team has shown more confidence in McFadden as a No. 2 runner.

Earlier Thursday, former Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar signed with the Los Angeles Rams, which likely gave Dallas an extra reason to lock up McFadden.
