Campbell: 'The world doesn't see Jacksonville the way I do'

After spurning his hometown Denver Broncos to sign a four-year, $60-million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, many believed Calais Campbell was just chasing the money, but the over-sized defensive lineman isn't listening to what people are saying.

Campbell admitted that though he was tempted to join the likes of Von Miller in Denver and chase a Super Bowl, the former Arizona Cardinal believes he can still pursue his championship dreams in Jacksonville. Despite the Jaguars' 3-13 record, Campbell believes his new team is on the verge of success.

"I feel like the rest of the world doesn't see Jacksonville the way I do," Campbell told MMQB's Robert Klemko. "I think Jacksonville's close. They lose 10 games last year by one score. I know how it goes with one-score games.

"We're 13-3 in Arizona a year ago and won all those close games. Jacksonville is right there. We just have to find a way to win those games. They had the sixth overall defense last year and improved. Now we can get tighter, get some turnovers, and it's a whole different ballgame."

Campbell also says the reputation of new vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin heavily contributed to his signing with the team, though he had never met or spoken to Coughlin or head coach Doug Marrone before agreeing to join the Jaguars.

"I really liked Tom Coughlin," said Campbell. "I've always respected him from playing against his team over the years. I like the way he carries himself. His organization has always been top-notch and guys that play for him always say good things about him."
