Report: Rams to host Connor Barwin on free-agent visit

The Los Angeles Rams are meeting with former Philadelphia Eagles pass-rusher Connor Barwin on Wednesday, Gary Klein of The Los Angeles Times reports, citing a source.

Barwin, an eight-year veteran, became a free agent when the Philadelphia Eagles opted to part ways after four seasons earlier this month.

Though his production has dropped off since his career-best 14.5-sack performance in 2014, his experience and familiarity with Wade Phillips' defense makes him a fit at a clear position of need for Los Angeles.

Originally a second-round pick of the Houston Texans, Barwin's career took off when Phillips arrived as the club's defensive coordinator for the 2011 campaign. Posting a total of 14.5 sacks over the following two seasons would land him a lucrative six-year contract to join the Eagles as a free agent in 2013.

If signed, the 30-year-old would likely compete for the starting rush linebacker role opposite Robert Quinn.
