Eagles release Chase Daniel

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles released quarterback Chase Daniel after he reportedly requested to be cut, the team announced Monday.

Daniel had requested to be released after the team signed quarterback Nick Foles to a two-year deal on Monday.

Last spring, Daniel signed the richest contract for a backup quarterback, totaling $21 million over three years with $12 million guaranteed.

The Eagles now owe Daniel $7 million in guaranteed money, all of which will count against their cap in 2017.
