Report: Chiefs sign Sorensen to 4-year extension

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed defensive back Daniel Sorensen to a four-year contract extension worth $16 million, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

Sorensen was initially tendered with a second-round offer ahead of his opportunity to become a restricted free agent this offseason. The move made it clear that the Chiefs value his skill set looking to the future, and the two sides wasted little time getting a long-term deal done thereafter.

The 27-year-old receives his new deal on the heels of a highly productive season as the third safety in Kansas City's sub packages.

Despite starting just one of his 16 appearances, Sorensen finished the 2016 campaign with 63 tackles, three interceptions, six passes defensed, and one sack.
