Tony Romo posted a video thanking Dallas Cowboys fans not long after NFL free agency officially began Thursday, and it's believed he did so assuming his tenure with the team had come to an end.

Romo made the video after reaching an agreement with the Cowboys that he would be released, reports Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

As of Friday morning, Romo remains property of the Cowboys and reports have surfaced that the team instead expects to trade him either to the Denver Broncos or Houston Texans.

Romo spent the first 14 seasons of his career with the Cowboys. It's likely he will be leaving Dallas, just not exactly when he thought the transaction would transpire.

Thanks for everything cowboy nation. @candiceromo
