Report: Chiefs not interested in Tony Romo

Tony Romo should have a strong market if and when the Dallas Cowboys release him, but at least one team floated as a potential suitor over the past few weeks will reportedly stay away.

The Kansas City Chiefs are not interested in acquiring the star quarterback this offseason, NFL Network's James Palmer reports.

Passing on Romo would fall in line with recent comments from Chiefs officials stressing the team's commitment to Alex Smith as its starter.

While Smith isn't the long-term answer, the Chiefs appear to prefer grooming his eventual replacement to cutting ties and going all-in on another veteran.

Romo could also remain in state and join the Houston Texans, but one of his most interesting potential landing spots would see him face Kansas City twice a season.

AFC West rivals the Denver Broncos are reportedly ready to pursue the 36-year-old if he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Any team that signs Romo is taking a risk on the mounting injury issues that limited him to just four starts over the past two seasons. The upside is still there, though: He threw for 3,705 yards, 34 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions during his last full year as a starter in 2014.
