Report: Cowboys in no hurry to make decision on Romo's future

The negotiating period for NFL free agents begins on Tuesday, but the Dallas Cowboys appear to be willing to take their time and let the dust settle around Tony Romo.

It seems more than likely that Romo will either be traded or released during the offseason, but the Cowboys aren't going to rush that decision, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Rapoport said everyone he spoke to in the Cowboys' organization echoed that Romo's fate was "above their paygrade," and will ultimately be a move executed by owner Jerry Jones.

When asked over the weekend, Jones said that he hadn't committed to any decision on his former starter, suggesting the veteran quarterback could still remain on the roster as Dak Prescott's backup.

With no bonuses in Romo's contract to force a move, the Cowboys will be able to sit back and hope that a bidding war emerges between contending teams in need of a quarterback.

Reports surfaced Monday that the Broncos are prepared to make a push for Romo if the Cowboys release him.
