Panthers' Cam Newton: Rushing attempts

Panthers coach Ron Rivera wants to continue limiting the number of hits Newton (shoulder) takes from running the ball, NFL.com reports.

Analysis:

Newton is coming off a career-low 90 rushing attempts this past season, and after he dealt with shoulder issues during the campaign, the Panthers are hoping to keep his ground pursuits in check going forward. Although Newton's skill set makes him likely to scramble and take advantage of short-yard opportunities, it sounds like his slate of designed runs will continue to be managed by Carolina's coaching staff. While fewer forays out of the backfield could hurt Newton's fantasy value, he'll be most focused this year on improving his career-worst 6.9 yards per passing attempt from last season.
