Report: DeMarcus Ware eyeing return to Cowboys in free agency

The Dallas Cowboys may have the opportunity to address their longstanding pass-rush needs with a familiar face.

Veteran defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who will soon hit the open market after three seasons with the Denver Broncos, is eyeing a return to the Dallas Cowboys, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the The Star-Telegram reports.

Ware played the first nine years of his career in Dallas before departing as a free agent in 2013. The 117 sacks he posted after joining the club as a first-round pick in 2005 gave him the all-time franchise lead by a fairly wide margin.

Though he's certainly lost a step or two since, the 34-year-old could still be a valuable addition in terms of both pressure off the edge and leadership for an otherwise young defense. Injuries limited Ware to 10 games and just four sacks this past season with the Broncos.

He'd shown no signs of slowing down the year prior, however, recording 7.5 sacks across 11 games before adding another 3.5 in the playoffs en route to a Super Bowl 50 title.
