Rams' Snead: Gurley's struggles were 'definitely a sophomore slump'

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead has an excuse for Todd Gurley's poor performance in 2016.

Snead said the running back's second-year struggles were "definitely a sophomore slump" while addressing reporters at the scouting combine Thursday, according to NFL.com's Marc Sessler.

It was quite a slump.

Gurley ran for 885 yards on 278 carries, a significant drop from the 1,106 yards on 229 carries he put up as a rookie, while his yards per carry dipped from 4.8 to 3.2.

Stunningly, his longest run of the season was 24 yards.

Snead said the Rams need to surround Gurley with more talent, a point few would disagree with. But it's also probably fair to say Gurley needs to create more on his own.
