Report: Redskins would have to be 'blown away' to accept Cousins offer

The Washington Redskins will reportedly accept nothing less than a substantial offer for quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Amid rumors of a potential trade, Washington placed the franchise tag on Cousins, retaining him for the 2017 season. It was reported he'd only accept a move to the San Francisco 49ers, but if such an agreement were to materialize, Washington would have to be "blown away" by the offer, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Cousins completed 67 percent of his passes for 4,917 yards in 2016, with 25 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, but failed to lead the Redskins to a second consecutive division title.

If he were traded to the 49ers, he'd be reunited with his former offensive coordinator in Kyle Shanahan, who became the team's head coach in February. Shanahan served as the Redskins' offensive coordinator from 2010-13, overlapping with Cousins' first two seasons.

Cousins would certainly fill a void for the 49ers, who vacillated between Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick - both of whom were wildly inconsistent - throughout the past two seasons.
