Jones: No recent discussions with Romo, no decision on his future yet

Erich Schlegel / USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he has yet to decide quarterback Tony Romo's future with the team.

Jones also told reporters Saturday that he and Romo haven't engaged in any recent discussions about the veteran passer's status, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Romo is fully healthy and believed to want the chance to start for another NFL team. If that is to happen, the Cowboys will either have to trade Romo (which could be impossible because of Romo's large salary) or release him.

Romo has a cap hit of $24.7 million in 2017.

The Cowboys are rumored to want to grant Romo's request to move on, but it's possible the parties will work out a "wink and nod" agreement that Romo won't sign with another NFC team, like the Washington Redskins, if given his release.

Jones spoke at an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of his first Super Bowl win. Jones purchased the Cowboys 28 years ago to the day.
