Report: 2017 NFL salary cap expected to be $166M-$169M

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The NFL has yet to announce the official salary cap number for the 2017 season, but it's expected to be in the $166 million-$169 million range per team, a source told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Last year, the cap was $155.27 million, so teams are in line for roughly an $11 million-$14 million increase.

The NFL will officially set the cap before the start of the new league year on March 9, which is the date when teams must be in compliance with it.

The cap has exploded in recent years. In 2013, it was pegged at $123 million, meaning teams are about to see a 35-37 percent increase in only four years.
