More details are flooding in about the contentious relationship between quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Cousins appealed to team owner Dan Snyder to be traded, but was told not to get his hopes up. It's unclear when Cousins made his trade request, but Mortensen added that the Redskins have no desire to appease him.

Rumors have swirled about a deteriorating relationship between team and quarterback since the Redskins were intending to make Cousins the first-ever signal-caller to receive the franchise tag in consecutive seasons. The San Francisco 49ers were reported to be a likely trade partner, but that may have never been the case if Snyder didn't intend on letting Cousins go.

In his two years as a starter in D.C., he has set franchise records for passing. In 2016, he totaled 4,917 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, and had the Redskins knocking on the door to the playoffs.

The offseason hasn't been kind to the team, however, as there are reports it could be parting ways with general manager Scot McCloughan, and it's expected to lose big-play receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.
