Patriots receive Browns' 3rd-round compensatory pick from Collins deal
Now that the NFL has announced all 32 compensatory picks for the 2017 NFL Draft, it's been confirmed that the New England Patriots will get a third-round pick for Jamie Collins.
When the Patriots initially dealt Collins to the Cleveland Browns in October, it was reported they would receive a conditional third-round selection. The condition on the pick was that the Browns would also be receiving a third-round compensatory selection for losing a troupe of free agents last spring.
The Browns and Patriots were confident enough that the league would be awarding that conditional pick to Cleveland, but had the Browns not received a third-rounder, New England would have received Cleveland's fourth-round selection in exchange for Collins.
While they lose the extra third-rounder, Cleveland also receives two fourth-round selections and a fifth-round compensatory pick, while the Patriots are awarded an extra fifth-rounder.
